Quick advice for keeping on top of deadlines!

Being an English Lit student I am well aware of the stress of coursework deadlines, especially when multiple pieces are in for the same day. I found that throughout my first year I would end up in a panic about finishing all of my essays for the same week with 2 weeks to go because I had left it so late.

Usually, questions and titles for assignments are released a good amount of time before the deadline giving us all the temptation to think “if it’s not due for ages, I’ll look at it later”. This is the wrong sort of mentality to have. If you want to be able to write essays with less panic then you should start thinking about what you’re going to write about straight away. This way you can plan, collect resources and materials and be able to write up a rough draft of your work with plenty of time to spare and focus on other pieces of work so you can come back to it with fresh eyes.

If you’re like me with multiple essay questions released on the same day, I would advise to pick all the questions you need to for individual essays and rank them in order of which you think will be hardest. The hardest being the one you tackle first so to give yourself more time!

Alternatively, you could make a plan or timetable to divide your time by the hour each day to focus on different assignments or extra work you have going on at the same time. By establishing the hours you’re free to work each week, you can plan ahead what work you can focus on at specific times.

I hope this helps and good luck!
